Luis

Here’s wishing Luis all the best for whatever the future may hold. Welcome to the world for former employees of Novell subsidiaries, please enjoy your stay. You’ve done a lot of good work, and I’m glad to hear you’re not quitting GNOME. Enjoy your break, you deserve it.

Sunday

Updated gaim packages to 1.1.2 My Palm has now decided not to synchronise with Evolution (or gpilotd has screwed up or something), haven’t worked out why yet (stupid piece of junk!) Update: Palm sync sorted, the Calendar and ToDo list conduits weren’t working because I’d forgotten to set my timezone in Evolution – whoops!

Server unavailability

The server that hosts rubberturnip.org.uk, usr-local-bin.org, jamesthevicar.com and amandaloveshamsters.com will be off line from approx 0000 UTC on 26 Jan 2005 (that’s midnight between Tuesday and Wednesday night UK time folks). This is because the server is being moved 150 miles to one of the UK’s premier hosting facilities. It is likely to be out …

GNOME on BBC Breakfast

That’s right, someone at Cranfield Uni, using GNOME just appeared in a piece on BBC Breakfast. The crummy thing is that it was a piece about so-called “Evil Twin” Wi-Fi exploitation, where someone sets up a spoof hotspot to intercept things like online bank details. The GNOME user was their 1337 h@X0R, abusing the poor …

Wine night

A lot of fun, good turnout, some very nice wines, especially the less expensive ones – go figure. One of particular note was a white from Alsace. Rachel brought it. In 2002 she was on a walking holiday in Alsace, and the only toilet possibilities on the walks were basically to nip behind a vine, …

Tomboy & Presenter report tool

Two Tomboy updates in as many days! Version 0.3.1 is now out, fixes some bugs in 0.3.0. Been reminded that I need to do a rewrite of my perl script for producing reports on songs used with Presenter. At the moment, the filename it writes to, and, well, every option is hard-coded, need to make …

GNOME Blog again

Right, have built and uploaded a new package, gnome-blog now that I know my problem with it isn’t down a bug in GNOME Blog itself. My patch to the Blosxom XML-RPC interface is being considered because it adds timestamps [specifically time()] to the filenames of entries when they’re posted, to avoid clashing filenames. Apparently the …

GNOME Blog

Okay, I think I’ve just about proven that GNOME Bug #164206 is actually a bug in the XML-RPC interface to Blosxom that I use, this post, if I’ve fixed the bug, represents my proof of that, and I’ll be submitting a patch to the maintainer of the interface script. Here’s a screenshot of my posting …

AbiWord

Uploaded new AbiWord packages overnight, version 2.2.3. We surprised Amanda with birthday cake and wine in the common room after she’d been out to Aquarobics with the girls from college.
