Summer of Code: Sync with Mobile Devices?

One of the openSUSE projects for this year’s Google Summer of Code was Sync with Mobile Devices. Does anyone reading this know what the status of this is? Are there any packages available for testing as it progresses? At the end of the summer, will I be any more likely to be able to sync …

Faster, Kernel, Faster!

As a result of Novell bug #525814, I’m now using the kernel from Factory. I just resumed my Asus Aspire One from hibernation and decided to time it with the new kernel. From pressing the power button to having the GNOME Screensaver password prompt took 59 seconds! The first ten seconds were the One doing …

Cool new Gwibber hack

Mario blogs about his work on Gwibber during the openSUSE hack week adding some cool new functionality. This is very cool and I hope to get this work included in the openSUSE Contrib (although someone with more karma than me suggested I get it into Factory) packages of Gwibber. Mario, you’ll read this on Planet …

On receiving the Eucharist in one kind only

Last week, a letter was sent by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York to all diocesan bishops in the Church of England saying that in the current pandemic situation of Swine Flu, the use of the chalice in Holy Communion ought to be suspended. Yesterday, at our three (three!) communion services, we used wafers only …

PDF Mod

Gabriel, at 2009 lines of code, do you plan to develop at a rate of one line per year from here on in? I’m going to give it a whirl and muck about with some PDFs – because I can!

Supporting Linux generated M3Us on the Cowon S9.

[Previous posts on this subject] Had a response back from Cowon basically thanking me for the infomation and guide on how to resolve it and that it had been passed on to the relevant developers. If it gets included in a future firmware version, the announcement will say so. Lets hope it happens. Track my …

M3U playlists on Cowon S9 with Linux and Banshee

[Ref 1/Ref 2] I had subsequently discovered that the M3U issue was some sort of combination of needing DOS slashes and line-endings rather than UNIX ones but I couldn’t figure out why no matter how many times I converted into DOS mode it didn’t work. I had an email this morning, pointing to this forum …

LXDE and GNOME

A while ago, Andrea Florio posted about LXDE on openSUSE. Since one platform that LXDE is supposed to be good for is Netbooks, I decided to give it a whirl on my Acer Aspire One. I have to say that I really like LXDE and there are plenty of positives about it. It’s nippy and …
