We’re in the process of getting the relatively stable 1.0 branch of Gwibber into Contrib. So, I decided to test out the latest trunk to see how it’s looking. originally my plan was not to publish the packages, assuming they could be ropey. What I’ve found is that they are more stable for me than …

Faces and Shells
Just did a big hit of adding hackergotchis to Planet SUSE. I had a reasonable response to my recent appeal for them. Some people sent me ones that I need to do work to – just a photo or no drop shadow, that sort of thing – they will take longer, basically when I have …

Show your face on Planet SUSE
I’ve just over the last couple of days had a slew of people asking how to get a “little head” next to their posts on Planet SUSE. This has probably been triggered by me disabling the showing of a little Geeko head for those without one – there were far too many Geekos! Anyway, the …

Summer of Code on Planet SUSE
The first of this year’s Summer of Code students has registered his blog for Planet SUSE (along with one who was already on the site). As with last year, this year’s blogs will be recognisable by an icon version of the image below appearing with their hackergotchi.

Calling Summer of Code students!
openSUSE has nine projects in this year’s Google Summer of Code – great news1! So, calling the nine students who will be participating – get blogging! Perhaps I should expand that slightly – get blogging and drop me a line to get on Planet SUSE! That is all. 1Especially the one I’m interested in – …

The big 2-0-0
Planet SUSE has gained feed number 200! The lucky blogger is Joerg Reuter – welcome to the planet, Joerg. Not bad for a site I started back at the start of 2004, before the days of openSUSE and that originally ran on a PC in my house accessed over my first-generation ADSL. Looking forward to …

Beat me to it!
Occasionally, I go to update a package in Factory only to find that someone else beat me to it. This makes me happy, the Community works.

Summer of Code 2009 – please do this one!
I didn’t propose this project so I have no compunction about pleading for someone to apply to pursue it: Sync with Mobile Devices. I should be able to seamlessly sync between my laptop, my Palm LifeDrive and my Nokia N95 via bluetooth without having to touch a command-line. I can’t. (Actually, even with a command-line …

Planet SUSE DNS resolved
There were some issues with the renewal of planetsuse.org. These have been resolved (no pun intended) and the correct DNS information should now be propagating.

Making the SD card slots on the Acer Aspire One work in openSUSE 11.1
So, the only outstanding piece of hardware not quite fully functioning was the pair of SD slots. A spot of research led me to discover that they are PCI-E devices and need hotplug enabled. Helpfully, there’s information on this in the openSUSE wiki. So, here’s the info you need: Stick the following in /etc/modprobe.d/pciehp options …
